ROSALIND DUKE - RANGE F# below Middle C - Top space E (and should have a little bottom to the quality.) Mezzo Soprano. A high school senior - studious always plays everything safe until she dresses as a frat dude named “Corey.” She transforms from scared to invincible, then ultimately to honest and open. She is smart and funny – and can quickly change back and forth between being a guy and a girl.
CELIA DUKE - RANGE F# below Middle C to G above staff. Soprano/Mezzo Soprano. Rosalind’s cousin and best friend. Also a high school senior, she is feisty and clever, if not too book smart. She knows she’s adorable and uses it. She has to play an alter ego at the mall, a Madonna-wannabe named LaDonna. Has a saucy edge.
ORLANDO BATEMAN - RANGE 2 Bs below Middle C - A above middle C (Falsetto) Tenor. A senior varsity wrestler with the soul of a poet. Think Troy Bolton or Jake Ryan.
OLIVER BATEMAN - RANGE E below middle C - E above Middle C. Tenor/Baritone. Orlando’s resentful 19-year—old brother. and truancy officer at the high school. Villain of the piece who gets a makeover and becomes beautiful both inside and out.
TOUCHTONE - RANGE B below middle C to E (F#) above middle C. Tenor/Baritone. The very horny high school geek. Think Anthony Michael Hall in Sixteen Candles.
AUDREY SHEPHERD - RANGE A below middle C - E above middle C. Mezzo Soprano/Alto. Senior. The Queen Bee. Gorgeous. Full of herself. Insufferable rich bully. Secretly more vulnerable than anyone else in the story.
PHIL LIPSCHITZ - RANGE C below Middle C - G above middle C. Tenor. A senior, a work-study employee at “Hot Dog on a Stick,” very sweet and naïve. Realizes he’s gay.
SYLVIE FELDMAN – RANGE G below middle C - E above middle C. Mezzo Soprano/Alto. Phil’s best friend, a senior, also work-study at “Hot Dog on a Stick,” desperately in love with Phil. Comedienne who can play heartbreak.
JACKIE WEST - RANGE F# below Middle C - top line F. Plays 30’s-40’s. Mezzo Soprano. The befuddled narrator and lead singer of “The Seven Stages of Man,” the onstage band. She is one of two adults in the show – Rocks out. Needs excellent comic timing. Combination Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper and Megan Mullally.
EDDIE VAN BEETHOVEN - RANGE E below Middle C - B below middle C. Tenor. Jackie’s lead guitarist who keeps her on track. The other adult in the show – plays 20s – 40s. Surfer dude.
