“The Gallery Players this season has decided to be both naughty and nice by bringing this tinsel-trimmed tale of ‘you think your job sucks’ to life…[as Crumpet, B. Brian Argotsinger] never falters or stumbles even once in his telling of this desperate yet hilarious tale—no small feat for a precisely written comedic monologue…Argotsinger delivers plenty of laughs and shines in this challenging role.”

“Santaland is a bracing tonic for anyone who’s had enough of Scrooge and It’s a Wonderful Life….The Santaland Diaries is another feather in The Gallery Players’ cap. They continue to produce fine work at their comfortable Park Slope home, and have emerged as a perennially reliable company. Check them out and see why.”

“For those looking to get into the holiday spirit, one need look no further than David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries…Argotsinger is brilliant as the put-upon elf, evoking sympathy, laughter and admiration from the audience.”

Forget visions of sugarplums and carols sung fireside, The Gallery Players has an alternative way to keep things jolly this holiday season – irreverent comedy! The Park Slope theater, now in its 41st season, follows its hit production of Yank! A New Musical with the hilarious play The Santaland Diaries – a sardonic “one-elf show†by award-winning American humorist David Sedaris. The Santaland Diaries takes the Brooklyn stage December 1-16, 2007.

Adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello, director of Wicked, The Ritz, Glengarry Glen Ross, and other Broadway shows, The Santaland Diaries is based on National Public Radio commentator Sedaris’ 1992 essay recounting his bizarre experiences working as a Macy’s “Elf†during the holiday season. The Gallery Players production stars B. Brian Argotsinger as Crumpet the Elf, the long-suffering victim of vicious children, nasty parents, and manipulative co-workers. Packed with witty, dry insights into crass commercialism, The Santaland Diaries is welcome antidote to the schmaltz of the season.
David Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. David Sedaris is the author of the bestsellers Barrel Fever and Holidays on Ice, as well as collections of personal essays, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, each of which became immediate bestsellers. Sedaris and his sister, Amy Sedaris, have collaborated under the name “The Talent Family†and have written several plays which have been produced at La Mama, Lincoln Center, and The Drama Department in New York City. Sedaris’ original radio pieces can often be heard on This American Life on NPR. In 2001, David Sedaris became the third recipient of the Thurber Prize for American Humor and he was named by Time magazine as “Humorist of the Yearâ€. David Sedaris was nominated for two Grammy Awards.
